The price of the polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) resins we use in our bags has been rising rapidly lately. The recent winter storm in Texas shut down 80 to 85% of US PE and PP production leading to a loss of two billion pounds of production. This, is in addition to other disruptions, over the last several months that caused our cost of resin to rise from $0.88 per pound to $1.56 per pound – a 77% increase – since last October!
Some sources suggest prices will rise further before production increases enough to begin to lower prices. We recently raised our bag prices becasue of this situation and will reduce them when prices return to normal.
